HOW TO MAKE TINS FOR RADLANDS

MAKE COOL LOOKING TINS

ALTOIDS STYLE TINS.

Starting with empty mint tins, these were sanded down and painted olive green, then weathered with brown and black acrylic paint.  Textured plastic was glued over the Altoids logo to make it look more military.  The orange squares were stenciled on to help keep count of which tins have been found.  The nice thing about these tins is the info card can be glued to the inside of the lid!

SOUP CAN STYLE TINS.

These larger tins are easier to find in outdoor games.  Each tin is made from two different sized cans.   Strips of foam were added to the cans for visual interest and to help the smaller can fit snugly inside the larger can.  Be careful to bend down any sharp edges with pliers! A small black grip made from a furniture plug was added to the top of the small can to make it easier to pull out.  The cans were painted with orange stencil letters and weathered with black and brown acrylic paint. We put the info card and contents in a small ziploc plastic bag to keep the contents from rattling around.

RAD TINS.

These tins actually glow with radiation, and cause 2 rad if they are opened without a protective rad shield! Rad tins are easy to spot but tricky to recover, and often contain useful (if dangerous) items like Chem Sticks and Lithium Rounds.

These Rad Tins are wooden boxes with a color cycling tea light inserted through the back.  They are painted dark green and weathered with brown paint and silver sharpie.  The screen door is made of cross stitch grating, nailed to the box with some U shaped staples so they hinge open.  Magnets are attached to the top of the screen and box opening to keep the doors closed.

FILL YOUR TINS WITH COOL COMPONENTS

STANDARD ROUNDS.   Use normal Nerf Gun darts, or whatever type works with your Dart Guns.

LITHIUM ROUNDS.   You can use glow in the dark darts for Lithium Rounds.  As a bonus, if you include a small light in the tin with the rounds, they will glow when you take them out!

RATION BARS.   Any kind of small candy bar will work as long as it fits in your tins.  Keep in mind any allergies your players might have.  Our players are lucky to get these Almond Roca rations.

ANTI-RAD TABLETS.   Any hard candy will work.  Pictured here area SweetTart candies, as they look like medicine tablets.

CHEM STICKS.   Any strongly flavored candy will work, such as Black Licorice or Sour Ropes.

RAD SHIELD.   A reflective Mylar "space blanket" makes a great rad shield, but you could also use Aluminum Foil.  Space Blankets tend to be pretty big, you can cut it down to a smaller size to fit it into the tin if you like.

AIR TANK.   This is just an empty CO2 cartridge.  Almost any tank or canister shaped item would work as long as it is small enough to fit in hand.

BATTERY.   Any kind of dead battery will work, especially if it doesn't work with your flashlights (to prevent cheating or mismatched batteries).  Mix Batteries in with other components so the survivors aren't finding just a useless (?) battery by itself.
