PLATFORMS

Elevation can add a lot to your games, both visually and tactically.  I built these simple but cool looking elevated platforms out of some flat trays (originally used for holding computer chips- thanks Mat), elevated with some wedding cake lattice columns (I cut the tops off them so they'd fit nicely into the square slots on the trays).  The columns were embellished with some novelty skulls and parts from the old plastic Emperor Titan model, as well as the ubiquitous plastic half round beads for rivets.

By lifting my smaller terrain pieces up on these platforms, I've enhanced their visual appeal while creating a whole new level of claustrophobic pathways beneath.  It's finally starting to feel like a real hive world now...

Here's some support blocks I made by combining Duplo castle pieces with some empty plotter printer cartridges.  They make nice tower bases like this...

Or you can flip them upside down and use them like this...

Or even stack them on top of each other like this to form taller tower pieces!

This is a view of the back of the blocks, showing off the nice detail of the printer cartridges.  I added the rivet plates, and other details to the side.  The open part of the Duplo pieces is covered with a sheet of plastic that I embossed rivets into with a 1/16" hole punch.
