COLONIAL MARINES ON PATROL, SUPPORTED BY FERRET SCOUT APC

Late in 2002, we took advantage of this great photo op courtesy of Mat's brother in law before he sold off this nifty piece of hardware.

JIN-ROH DOG SOLDIERS TAKE STAGE  BY STORM- FANIMECON 2002
These costumes blew away the fans at Fanime, earning Best in Show and Best Technical in the masquerade.  Be SURE to see the even better shots with the Ferret above!
Here's a  nice, casual off-stage shot.  From L to R: Richard, Tracy, Christine, Robin, and Mat.
Five other friends and members of Hi-Impact have suits in production too, so if everyone shows up somewhere at once, that's a full squad of 10!  I had to bow out of this project, but am still pleased with the results.  Mat came up with a great effect for the glowing eyes (that still allows you to see through them!).  More shots coming soon...

COLONIAL MARINES IN FORCE- SILICON 2001
From R to L: Bob, Alison, Mat, Mike, Sean, Tracy, Evans, Max, Eric.  This isn'te even everyone!   Hi-Impact and friends pretty much dominated this convention.  It was fun to see everyone again!  Now we just need to go to a nice location for some REAL filming action...  Thanks to Chris, Jesse, Alison, Mat, and Kathie for taking great pics!

We had to wear something cool to Fanimecon this year, and this is what we threw together.  Robin Yang is mostly to blame, though all of us admitted to wanting the Seburo guns (conversions of MP3 airsofts), blue BDUs, Olympus Police patches (which Mat printed up), and those cool harnesses with loads of straps and pockets.  Whee!  Everyone at the con was impressed (or maybe scared- I couldn't tell).

"THE BUGHUNTER"- Our entry in the 1998 COMICON costume competition

It won Best Technical and BEST OF SHOW!  This is the first (but not the last) venue featuring Hi-Impacts new ALIENS Colonial Marines costumes. Our humerous entry consisted of various genres swapping war stories at a bar. From L to R: Jeff Young (SST), Sean Lujan (Snowtrooper), Max Cervantes (CM), Robin Yang (CM), Sean Patten (Smartgun), Bob Mannion (CM), Eric Moody (CM), Sharie Justice (Pilot /w/chestburster), Mat Clayson (SST).

One of Games Workshop's Full Scale Space Marine Models

I was impressed by these models (not to mention my preoccupation with 40K). Actual suits of Mark 7 and Terminator armor were also built on behalf of the Black Library, and appear in the Games Day videos.  I have vague plans to eventually (in a few years) do Space Marine armor. It would be vacu-formed much like our stormtroopers.  This site has good step-by step info on vacuforming:

How to build a Stormtrooper- The Definitive Guide

If you are new to costuming and you think you want to tackle Space Marine armor, my advice is to start with something less ambitious, like Marine Scouts.  Get used to the techniques first.   If you have specific questions, feel free to ask, otherwise I don't really have enough free time to write up all the steps for how I would approach making Marine armor...
